Summer Art Camp 2011 ~ July in Scarborough

KIDS ART CAMP 2011 ~ IN SCARBOROUGH
These photos document the joy of  2 weeks of art camp in July, 2011 in the east end of Toronto. It was my profound priviledge of leading this wonderful group of children through art exercises, nature walks, yoga, a trip to the AGO and of course, since its
summer..play in the pool!

Studies of nature- flowers, fruit, snails...

Out by the red current bush..to sketch, taste and  pick for a treat!

The center of attention on the table? This little guy...a cute snail

YOGA TIME: a moment each day to center & rest on a busy day.
Partner yoga makes it fun

                                 and getting that extra stretch...

savasana ..relaxation
..

What is happening here?

 GLOBS OF PAINT...
FUNKY TEXTURING TOOLS....
+ a creative mind ... make this delicious painting

Or this!....

A young visitor to art camp, grandson Oliver...
not quite old enough to play with these!

CREATING PAINTINGS A LA MONDRIAN...
The older kids got very precise ....
after a couple of days ....look at the funky results!
Even a young 4yr old visitor from Sri Lanka got right into it!
And this one is done by our 5 year old grand-daughter Alexia..
notice how she purposely used the tape overlapping the lines to create her design

This design took new turn; angled lines

And for the most senior student...black lines for him:
a very detailed process & his self-expression

SUMMER TIME = POOL TIME!

And for dessert? Red Currents, Strawberries and Ice-cream

OFF TO THE ART GALLERY OF ONTARIO
~climbing Henry Moore's bronze work, Two Large Forms (1966-69)

The children make themselves right at home....

                            Dashrin's favourite Pollock painting

A Room full of Mark Rothko paintings.
The girls get busy interpreting.
Dashrin takes in the contemplative space.

Love those letters :-)

Good-bye to "The Abstract Expressionists from New York"!

Taking the subway is part of the adventure!

Another Day:
Painting on stretched wet watercolor paper ~ letting loose outside!

2 takes on a bold stripe theme...

SCULPTURE; How to use up an old surf board

PRINTMAKING; on pink styrofoam

The prints went through changes- carved with kitchen tools and chisel set
each change printed in a different color...all in Chinese rice paper

A pie and pizza crust cutter + cookie cutters = gorgeous image!

GETTING CONNECTED TO NATURE;
The children took over the camera and focused on landscape photographs
These are just a few

Wild drawings unleashed onto the park bridges..
Games in chalk

WELL-USED CHALK PAILS

photos looking up into the sky...and looking down close to the ground

..
a candy stick being picked apart by the ants.

YAHOO! The playground..the big kids had it all to themselves that day :-)

Time get home for the next fun art project...

SILKSCREENING;
I got past the concern about the mess and technology ~
and had a blast with these kids-using leaves and other found objects

LEAF MAGIC!!

I love the exciting new ideas that come up from these young minds!
String taped down to make a spider's web...

time to buy a print drying rack!

IT'S SHOW TIME..LAST DAY OF ART CAMP!
