March Break ART Camp: Grateful for the good weather!

March Break Art Camp ~ 2012!
The Kids call our house " A Cottage in the City!"
So Welcome in and have a look at the fun we had....

ART IN THE WOODS ~ 'LAND ART' : We played with elements in the environment, after I introduced them to 'Installation Art': an artistic genre of three-dimensional works that are often site-specific and designed to transform the perception of a space. Generally, the term is applied to interior spaces, whereas exterior interventions are often called Land art
Check out Google images for installation art and land art!

And then we found a tree that just had its bark stripped bare by a wind storm the week before...a beautiful path was created over the muddy hill to get to the next log path above.

Everyone pitched in and made sure of the patterning and the sturdiness of the design.

Ingenious!! and look at the gorgeous lines in the landscape!
Back home for a well deserved lunch!
Loosening up our drawing skills on giant construction paper:

Some examples of the pastels designs that were created this week:
Three siblings....six variations by
Mika                                   Dashran
Theeran                              Dashran

Mika                                                      Mika..

Three friends...three landscapes....by Alex, Maegan and Sarah.

PAINTING IN EXPRESSIONISM STYLE:
We looked at expressionism style paintings and this is what the children expressed:
                           Mikka experience calm and peacefulness...
                           Theeran....

                                         Alexia...

And time to go home with all the goods.
Alexia's Family portrait done while waiting for Mom to pick her up

..we missed getting photos of the other children's paintings- to come soon!

OUR VISIT TO THE ART GALLERY OF ONTARIO :
Henry Moore gets all the attention!
A contemporary artist with an interesting name...
The view from the top of the spiral staircase...
Ribbon art!
Mika takes advantage of the Soft City children's activity and makes cube.
Check out the whole city built by soft sculpture!  Notice Toronto City Hall in the middle:
Awww...the wood sculptures by Giuseppe Penone are gone...
The security guard explaining how the large Giuseppe Penone sculptures were moved out...and back to New York.. The kids standing where the big Tree used to be. see the discoloration on the wood floor.
Check out this link to his work:

Last Day with Faith and Isaac:
A quieter day for me as the other kids have dispersed up north skiing, to Niagara Falls and off to the ballet.

Faith's Giant pastel  smudgerama!                   ...and Isaah's

The Big Hike in the woods.
Are they not just SO SWEET?!
Yeah for rubber boots in the spring!
Checking out our 'ROCK' installation which has been kicked apart by people who clearly do not appreciate Art since our efforts on Monday...
We made it to the top of the ravine with the walking sticks we made...
My walking buddies forging ahead...excited to go exploring!
The kids and I drained off some water logged areas. See the little stream we made..?
Yes, the mucky puddle is given a chance to drain ...Faith is the bravest standing in the middle of the 'stew'...
We also collected a lot of empty bottles along the way..."we are making a difference for the environment!"
 The BIGGEST hill to climb....
 And RUN DOWWNNnnn...
And this time we found a big pond at the side to drain... sorry to all the mosquito larvae that are now without a home :-)

Well used and dirty boots parked outside...before we head inside for some yoga. A relaxing end to a wonderful day and a wonderful week ( and yes, I admit i fell asleep during Savasana :-)
